Hello, I’m Dr Lauren Atherton, and welcome to Pine Banks Psychology. I am a qualified Clinical Psychologist, professionally registered with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council). I am based in the North West of England and provide 1:1 talking therapy to adults aged 18 plus, which can be accessed either online or face to face from my clinic space on Mondays.
If you have found yourself here you may be thinking about starting talking therapy.
Perhaps you feel that you are used to ‘coping well’ on the surface – managing competing demands like careers, relationships and caring responsibilities – but that you are now finding things feel harder to manage. When you are used to being the person who ‘keeps all the plates spinning’ and supports others, reaching out for support for yourself can feel so difficult.
You may have noticed yourself feeling more stressed, anxious or overwhelmed lately and know that this needs attention, but have wondered if this is ‘enough’ to justify making time and space for yourself in therapy. Please hear me when I say that your own needs are important too. Many of us will have seasons in our life that are more challenging to navigate than others, such as periods of change and transition – changes to jobs or relationships, becoming a parent, bereavement and loss. Talking therapy can be a helpful space to pause, reflect and begin to make sense of your feelings and how you can best care for yourself and your own world.
Please do contact me if you have any questions or would like to discuss arranging an appointment.

It is important to find a clinical psychologist or therapist that feels like the ‘right fit’ for you. I therefore offer a free initial 15 minute telephone discussion to help us decide together if I am the right person to help you.
Integrity is important to me. If I don’t have the required experience or specialist skills for the particular difficulties that have brought you to therapy, I will be honest about this and will signpost you to support that is more suited to your needs.
